The Wind Symphony is the premiere performing ensemble in the band program at WCHS. This ensemble is open to students in all four grades by audition and consistently performs upper-level high school and collegiate band literature. Members of this group have demonstrated the highest level of musical maturity, technical proficiency, and commitment to the LHS band program. As a part of this ensemble, students are required to attend occasional sectionals throughout the year, encouraged to audition for the All-District/Region/State Bands, expected to participate in ISSMA Solo Contest in February, perform in a Chamber Recital, and required to attend occasional full ensemble rehearsals scheduled in preparation for concerts or contest performances. Students must consciously work both in and out of rehearsal to improve their individual musicianship while also pursuing ensemble goals. Members are strongly encouraged to take private lessons. The Wind Symphony performs at various concerts, band festivals, and at ISSMA contest in the spring each year. The WCHS Wind Symphony is lead by Mr. Ziegler.
The Concert Band is the second performing ensemble in the band program at WCHS. This ensemble is open to students in all four grades by audition and consistently performs mid-level high school band literature. Members of this group have demonstrated musical maturity, technical proficiency, and commitment to the WCHS band program. Strong emphasis is placed on developing essential individual fundamentals and ensemble skills. As a part of this ensemble, students are strongly encouraged to participate in ISSMA Solo Contest in February as well as perform in a Chamber Ensemble Recital, and required to attend occasional full ensemble rehearsals scheduled in preparation for concerts or contest performances. Students are expected to consciously work both in and out of rehearsal to improve their individual musicianship while also pursuing ensemble goals. The Concert Band performs at various concerts and band festivals. Performance at ISSMA contest in the spring will be determined by group eligibility and director discretion. The WCHS Concert Band is lead by Mr. Travis.
Enrollment is the Percussion Class is open to all percussionists who have successfully participated in a middle school band program or met other criteria as determined by the directors. During the Fall, the class will focus on the Fall marching production, as well as continued development of fundamentals and personal musicianship skills, and preparation for the Winter concert, All-District/Region/State auditions and Solo/Ensemble contests. The Warsaw Percussion Section participates at all events as part of the Tiger’s Pride Marching Band. During the Spring semester, percussion students will audition and be placed into one of the two aforementioned performing ensembles for ISSMA Concert and Sight-reading preparation. In addition, percussion students will be encouraged to perform individually at the ISSMA Solo Contest in February and audition for Winter Percussion Ensemble, an extra-curricular group competing in the Indiana Percussion Association circuit. They will also present a percussion ensemble concert in the spring. The Percussion Ensemble is lead by Mr. Ziegler.
The WCHS Color Guard includes students from a variety of backgrounds, both musical and not. These students are trained to dance and spin throughout the year and perform with the marching band. Additionally, these students perform in the WCHS Winter Guard, which competes in Divisional Regional A Class at IHSCGA. The Color Guard is directed by Ms. Wysong and Ms. Bussard and meets during 6th period.
(7th Period, Fall Only)
This is a new class for the 2018-2019 school year, which meets during 7th period. In this class, students can receive much more individual attention. The class size is kept much smaller, so that students can receive one-on-one and small group instruction from the directors and from instructional staff. This class is taken in addition to another band/percussion class and is for all developmental levels. This class takes place during 7th period of the Fall semester.

The WCHS Jazz Band is open to all students currently enrolled in both semesters of the WCHS Band program. Students will perform in concerts and festivals, listen to the best jazz artists, and study jazz history and improvisation. The Jazz Band occasionally meets outside the school day in preparation for performances or festivals. Students eligible to participate in Jazz Band are expected to be enrolled in Instrumental Ensemble Class in the Fall and either Concert Band or Wind Symphony in the Spring unless alternate arrangements (should be a rare occurrence) have been made and approved by the directors (i.e.- current orchestra students, resolvable schedule conflict, etc.). The WCHS Jazz Band is co-directed by Mr. Ziegler and Mr. Travis.
